MARK NELSON

Mark Nelson has been recognized as one of America’s Most Honored Lawyers, noted to be among the Top 1% of American lawyers. Nelson is a Preeminent AV rated member of NELSON. He has extensive trial experience in complex commercial, business, personal injury, and professional liability cases. He is also an experienced, trained, and registered mediator. Mark has a long history of advising and representing attorneys, accountants, physicians, construction contractors, realtors, and other business persons on ethical, professional, and liability issues. He served two terms on the Mississippi Bar Complaint Tribunal and was appointed to the Mississippi Supreme Court Task Force on Judicial Discipline. He served as lead plaintiff trial counsel in a legal malpractice liability case that resulted in jury verdicts and judgments exceeding $113 million against the world’s largest law firm, which subsequently settled after an appeal that affirmed liability.

In 1982, Nelson graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law, where he also served as Associate Editor of the Mississippi Law Journal. He was a law clerk to the Honorable Emmett R. Cox while the Judge served on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama. He practiced as an associate with Jones Walker, a regional law firm in New Orleans, before returning to Mississippi to practice in Hattiesburg in 1986. In 2014 he started practicing in a small firm setting, and the firm was subsequently named NELSON LAW, PLLC.

Mark is active in The Mississippi Bar where he served as a Member of the Executive Committee, Litigation Section, and on the Executive Committee, Mississippi Bar General Practice Section, 1996-1999. He has also served on the Committee for Lawyers and Judges Assistance Program for many terms and is active in promoting Lawyers’ wellbeing. Nelson was also a Lecturer for the College of Osteopathic Medicine, William Carey University, Medical Jurisprudence, 2011-13.

Nelson is a rated Super Lawyer and was also selected as a Lifetime Achievement Member by America’s Top 100 Attorneys. He is admitted to all state and federal courts in Mississippi, the Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit and the Federal Bar Association.
